Hello again! We’ve had a successful first few weeks of the 2013-2014 school year and StepUP Students new and returning are getting settled into the college routine.
To relieve some of the stress that can come with getting accustomed to college, the women of StepUP set out last weekend to return to Camp St. Croix in Wisconsin to partake in a women’s retreat. We hoped that this would bring the women of StepUP together not only as friends but as a supporter’s in each other’s recovery.
We left Friday, September 13th after filling up on gas and dinner. When we arrived we unloaded the cars and found our cabin, ready to settle in. A camp counselor, Will, showed us some great team building activities that night. We played many different games to help enhance our relationships and have a few laughs after the long school and work week. After the fun was over, we ended the night by the fire making s’mores together.
The next morning, Saturday, September 14th, we woke up bright and early to catch some breakfast and get started on yet another adventure on the high ropes courses’ Camp St. Croix has to offer. It was incredible to see the brave things these girls do and how well they support each other. Many of the girls stepped outside their comfort zone on the high ropes course (emphasis on high) and overcame their fear of heights! Retreats like this show us that community is so important to the recovery of our StepUP students and this was a great way for the women of StepUP to bond and get to know each other better.
