StepUP students are now in their second week of classes after a great long weekend celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Some tips for students as professors begin to pile on assignments, tests and quizzes:
1. take things slow and don’t succumb to all nighters.
2. studying for a few hours each day is more effective with memorization than trying to cram for tests.
3. eat as healthy as possible.
4. keep a regular sleeping schedule going to bed and waking up at the same time each day.
5. move your body – exercise will enhance studying.
The cafeteria serves healthy options and has a superb salad bar. Eating healthy does great things for the body, mind and spirit. One of the best perks is an alert mind able to absorb a lot of dense information.
Some tips for parents during stressful times for students.
1. limit expectations on your student’s time.
2. ask your student if you can do anything to help or simplify things so they are better able to study.
3. be supportive. Some of the best cheerleaders are our parents. It feels really good when a parent is supportive and believes in their student, so just let them know that you do.
4. Encourage healthy study breaks.
If everyone uses these tips there is no doubt that students will do well in classes. Everyone is off to a great start. Let’s keep this semester going strong!
