Services for Latinx Students

Each student’s college journey is unique! Latinx Student Services facilitates personal, academic, financial, and career advising through a solution-based approach rooted in culturally sustaining pedagogy.

Services

  • Advocates to ensure the success of students in the classroom; this includes joining meetings and appointments with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Provide scholarships and funding opportunities for currently enrolled Latinx scholars, including DACA and undocumented scholars, such as the HOLA scholarship, Scholastic Connections, and the Immigrant Opportunity Fund.
  • Individualized assistance to complete FAFSA and MN Dream Act State Grant applications in collaboration with Student Financial Aid Services
  • Support students in transitioning from high school or community college to Augsburg University.
  • Individualized support and referrals to on and off-campus resources for internships, food security, mental health support, and more.Referral to graduate school and research opportunities, including McNair Scholars, URGO, and Strommen Center
  • Provide advice and support on how to navigate college and family expectations.
  • Provide opportunities to network with Latinx leaders, students, faculty, and community organizations.

Programs

  • Advises Augsburg Latin American Students (ALAS) to support the success of programming and maintain mission and purpose. This commissioned organization aims to promote, educate, and engage the broader Augsburg and surrounding communities in learning about Latinx culture and encourage awareness and respect for students of Latinx ancestry.   • In collaboration with Augsburg Latin American Students, we host an annual bilingual orientation for incoming students and families before their first week of classes. This orientation provides workshops and presentations to ensure a strong transition into Augsburg.
  • Offer safe and brave spaces to build relationships and community through our dialogue series, “Platicas Con Cafecito.” Each year topics varied based on student’s interests and needs.
  • In collaboration with Multicultural Life, we co-host the annual Oyate Retreat, which brings together BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ students for an overnight retreat to foster community and leadership skills.
  • To celebrate the leadership and success of our Latine students at Augsburg, a banquet celebration is organized to invite family, students, faculty, staff, and community members.
